DETROIT (AP) — A private company is expected to start picking up trash outside homes on Detroit’s west and northwest sides.
The city says Advanced Disposal will start work Monday as part of Detroit’s transfer of residential refuse collection from its Public Works department to contractors.
Advanced Disposal will collect trash from 125,500 homes.
Rizzo Environmental Services began collecting trash, yard waste, bulk and recycling early last month in southwest Detroit and on the city’s east side. Rizzo services 90,000 households.
Contracts with the two companies call for bulk item and yard waste collection every other week. The switch is designed to save the bankrupt city $6 million per year.
