DETROIT (WWJ/AP) – Whole Foods plans to open its new store in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood this spring.
The Austin, Texas-based natural grocery store chain announced Friday it plans to open a 21,650-square-foot supermarket on June 5 with about 75 employees.
Whole Foods Market Inc. says details about job openings will be posted online April 2.
The much-anticipated store, located at Mack Avenue and John R. Road, will add to the vibrant, growing food scene in Detroit — where residents have long complained about not having enough places to buy fresh fruit, vegetables and produce.
Whole Foods and city officials began discussions in 2007 to bring a store to Detroit. Talks regarding the Midtown site got underway in 2010 and a groundbreaking for the store was held last year.
